It’s hard to believe it is already the last week of August. The older you get, the quicker time flies, I am starting to believe. The kids come in after school each day ready to unwind and play a few games on the computers with their friends. It’s still a goal to get them to read a book. I hate to admit I was never an avid reader growing up either, so it’s hard for me to put the pressure on them. Now that I’m older, however, I find reading comforting and a good way to step away from social media in the evenings.
A few new books just arrived in the mail today:

Uglies, Pretties, Specials, Extras by Scott Westerfeld – young adult /AR book;
Road Trip by Mary Kay Andrews – fiction;
The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood – fiction;
Ransom by Daniel Silva;
This Book Made Me Think of You by Libby Page – Fiction and highly recommended
As always, if there are books you would like to see in our library, please let me know. I had a patron come in Friday and request two books; they are on order and should be here by the first of next week. I can either request them via Inter-library loan or, if they aren’t available, I will order them for the permanent collection. Reference our website, protectionlibrary.com, to check what we have available anytime by selecting the card catalog.
Everyone is always welcome to stop by and look around and visit if you wish. Never be lonely; I always have coffee or a bottle of water and a comfortable chair. I am missing one of my regular ladies who stops by, Cathy Holler; keep her in your thoughts and prayers as she is recovering from back surgery. Also, keep the family of one of our past patrons, Charlotte Girk, in your prayers as she passed away this past weekend. I can’t even begin to know everyone having trouble in our small community, but always reach out if you are in need.
Enjoy Funfest 2026 this weekend and be safe. I’m looking forward to the return of this event that I remember so well from my younger years.
