SCHS’ Heaton Qualifies for State Cross Country

South Central boy’s cross country runner Corbett Heaton qualified for the Class 1A State cross country meet after his performance in the Regional meet Saturday at Prairie Ridge.

Heaton, a junior, finished 12th overall with a time of 18:42.90. Runners who placed in the top 15, but were not part of State qualifying teams, advanced to the State meet.

Also competing for the boys were Denin Johnson, who finished 25th with a time of 19:38.70; Dominic Macias, who finished 37th with a time of 20:45.80; and Gavin Martin, who finished 59th with a time of 34:23.10.

For the girls, Breckyn Snyder finished 28th with a time of 25:28.20 and Sophia Hernandez finished 33rd with a time of 26:41.50.

There were 60 runners in the boy’s race and 44 runners in the girl’s race.

The Class 1A State cross country meet will take place this Saturday at Wamego Country Club. The boy’s 1A race will start at 12:55 p.m.
