With school starting the library has been very lonely. I pray the kids have a great year and have fun. Bullying unfortunately happens too often and most kids won’t say anything when they are being picked on. Please let your child know every day how special they are and that you are on their side if they need help. Too many times I hear adults dismiss their child as sensitive or say they are making a big deal out of nothing. What seems like no big deal to us adults can make a life changing difference to a child. Too many children die by suicide each year for nonsence that could be avoided. If you see a child in need of help please step up.
On to library news. I added several new books again this week to the shelves. All of the 2026 Kansas Notable Grant books have been received and are ready to check out. So many good choices; I can’t decide what to read first. One of the most recommended books this week was The Calamity Club by Kathryn Stockett. It is written by the author of the best selling novel The Help which I would suggest you read as well. Other new books include:
• The Men I Didnt Marry by Janice Kaplan
• The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks
• Its Always the Husband by Michele Campbell
• Grand Central featuring several bestselling authors – historical fiction about Postwar Love
• The Perfect Divorce by Jeneva Rose.
I just realized there is a little theme in the books I ordered this week, it wasn’t intentional, as most books were requested.
The Library Board held its regular meeting this past Monday. During that meeting the dates for this year’s Tablescape Event were chosen. It will be held the first weekend in November. Saturday, Nov. 7 and Sunday, Nov. 8. Start brainstorming ideas for your table, the size of table you will need, and the color scheme. Sign-up has not started yet and more information will be available in the near future. As always we are planning a fun time, beautiful tables, and a great community outing. Check out our Protection Library Tablescapes page for future information.
Lastly, just a reminder: it’s never too early to think about the Holidays and reserving the Community Room for your family. The reservations come in fairly quickly and are first come first served, so call and get your name on the list. Library phone is (620) 622-4886, and the the email is pclibrary@protectionlibrary.com.
If you are looking for a book go to our website Protectionlibrary.com and select catalog to see what we have to offer. We have 8,000 books in our little library and can always borrow or buy a book you are looking for.
Until next week, get in front of the air conditioner and read a good book.
