USD 300 will move to a new athletic streaming platform this year after board members approved a change from the NFHS Network to HUDL during the district’s August school board meeting.
South Central High School head football coach Brett Westrup and Principal Brett Bates presented information to the board regarding the proposed switch, citing concerns from community members about the quality of the current NFHS Network streams and increasing subscription costs for viewers.
The minimum NFHS Network subscription currently costs patrons $13.99 per month to watch South Central activities, according to the presentation.
The district’s new HUDL package will include higher-quality automated cameras designed to better follow game action and will allow patrons to watch South Central activities at no cost. The system will include mounted cameras at the high school football field and high school gym, along with a portable camera that can be used for middle school events and away activities.
More than 70 percent of Kansas high schools currently use HUDL, according to information presented during the meeting.
The board approved buying out the remaining NFHS Network agreement for $5,000, with the cost split equally between the school district and a donor.
The board also approved purchasing the HUDL athletic package for $10,000. Football, volleyball, girl’s basketball and boy’s basketball programs will each contribute $1,500 toward the cost, totaling $6,000, with the district covering the remaining $4,000.
