Timberwolves Get Past Oilers for District Win

The South Central football team grabbed a key District 7 victory Friday after beating Central Plains 68-22 at home.

The win puts the Timberwolves at 2-0 in the district with two games remaining. Central Plains previously lost to Kiowa County 34-28 in overtime and South Central has a 44-12 win over Kiowa County.

The Central Plains Oilers took an 8-0 lead in the first quarter after a 3-yard touchdown run by Keeton Robison. It wasn’t until the second quarter that the Timberwolves answered, after Easton Huck had a 1-yard touchdown run. The two-point conversion failed, though, and left the score at 8-6 with Central Plains leading.

The Oilers then took a 16-6 lead after a 27-yard touchdown pass from Brodie Crites to Broc Kilma.

But then the Timberwolves responded with two scores: a 6-yard touchdown run by Huck and a 41-yard touchdown pass from Huck to Parker Price. The Timberwolves got the two-point conversion after each touchdown and took a 22-16 lead at halftime.

The Timberwolves took over in the third, scoring 30 points to put the game out of reach for the Oilers. Wiley York returned the opening kickoff 68 yards for a touchdown, Huck had a pair of 3-yard touchdown runs and Coda Lindsay had a big play after running 58 yards for a touchdown.

Robison scored on a 44-yard touchdown run late in the third to make it 52-22, but the Timberwolves sealed the deal in the fourth quarter. Tuck completed a 10-yard TD pass to Jett Petty and York returned an interception for a score.

Huck finished with 136 yards passing, completing 10 of 14 attempts. He also rushed for 144 yards on 21 carries.

Lindsay added 81 yards rushing on nine carries, Price caught four passes for 73 yards and Petty caught two passes for 35 yards. Colt Yoder added three catches for 18 yards.

On defense, Westynn Stapleton led the team with eight tackles, Price had seven and Lindsay, Huck, York and Jack Willems each had six. York had two interceptions.

The Timberwolves (4-1) will need at least one more district win to clinch the district title. They will get their first chance to do so as they will head to St. John-Hudson this Friday.

The Tigers are 0-6 for the season and are coming off a 71-0 loss to Kiowa County. Their closest games was their season opener against Ness City, which St. John-Hudson lost 38-36.
