Lady Timberwolves Play Tough Field at Lyons Tourney

The South Central volleyball team faced some tough competition at the Lyons tournament Saturday.

Head coach Cindy Snyder said she was proud of how the girls played, noting they competed hard in each match and were in all of the matches, finishing 2-3 for the day.

“We faced several very strong teams, including a number of 3A schools, and every match provided tough competition that challenged us to play at a higher level,” Snyder said. “We were led by our seniors, Ellie Murphy and Piper Price, who provided strong leadership throughout the tournament.”

The Lady Timberwolves got a win over Chaparral in three games, 25-23, 24-26, 27-25. They then faced Little River and lost 25-18, 26-24. South Central then faced Lyons and won in three, 25-27, 25-17, 29-27. Against Southeast of Saline, the Lady Timberwolves lost 25-23, 25-19. South Central then faced Sterling and lost in three, 20-25, 25-18, 17-25.

“Competing against these teams showed the girls what it takes to be successful against strong competition while also exposing areas where we still need to improve,” Snyder said. “Good teams have a way of exposing weaknesses, and these matches gave us valuable opportunities to identify and work on those areas.”

She added that Murphy and Kate Heard stepped up their hitting and were solid throughout the tournament.

“We will continue to focus on improving our hitting, coverage, and consistency while working to play at our highest level from the first point to the last in every match,” Snyder said.

South Central (13-8) is set to play a triangular at South Gray against the host team and Bucklin Tuesday. The Lady Timberwolves will then play in the St. John tournament this Saturday.
