ORDINANCE NO. 2026-3

AN ORDINANCE APPROVING EVENT, CLOSING STREET, RIGHT-OF-WAY, AND SIDEWALKS, AND AUTHORIZING THE TEMPORARY SALE AND SERVICE OF ALCOHIC LIQUOR AND CMB

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF PROTECTION, KANSAS:

SECTION 1. APPROVAL OF EVENT: That the Protection Funfest 2026 event scheduled for August 28-30, 2026, including the Live Entertainment with Local Musicians & Karaoke scheduled from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on August 29, 2026, and the Glow Street Dance scheduled from 8:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. on August 29, 2026, is approved by the governing body of the City of Protection, Kansas.

SECTION 2. CLOSURE OF STREET, RIGHT-OF-WAY, AND SIDEWALKS: That Broadway Avenue in the City of Protection, Kansas, including the entire right-of-way and all sidewalks adjacent thereto, shall be closed to all motor vehicle traffic between Pine Street and Chestnut Street, for the Protection Funfest 2026 Live Entertainment with Local Musicians & Karaoke and the Glow Street Dance, from 5:00 p.m. until 12:00 a.m., on August 29, 2026.

SECTION 3. AUTHORIZATION OF TEMPORARY SALE AND SERVICE OF ALCOHOLIC LIQUOR AND/OR CMB: That, as requested, the establishments adjacent to event, Round One Sports Grill LLC and My Brother’s House, are authorized, with the proper permits, to offer for sale and serve alcoholic liquor and/or cereal malt beverage for possession and consumption on Broadway Avenue in the City of Protection, Kansas, including the entire right-of-way and all sidewalks adjacent thereto, between Pine Street and Chestnut Street, from 5:00 p.m. until 12:00 a.m., on August 29, 2026, during the Protection Funfest 2026 Live Entertainment with Local Musicians & Karaoke and Glow Street Dance.

SECTION 4. BOUNDARIES FOR POSSESSION AND CONSUMPTION: That the boundaries of the event shall be clearly marked by signs, a posted map or other means that reasonably identify the area in which alcoholic liquor and cereal malt beverage may be possessed or consumed at said event.

Section 5. EFFECTIVE DATE: This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption and publication in the official City newspaper.

Passed, approved and adopted by the Governing Body of the City of Protection, Kansas, this 12th day of August, 2026.
