RESOLUTION NO. 2026-R-18
A RESOLUTION PURSUANT TO K.S.A. 19-3602, PROPOSING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A FIRE DISTRICT WITHIN KINGMAN COUNTY, KANSAS HEREIN REFERRED TO AS THE “RURAL FIRE DISTRICT NO. 1.”
WHEREAS, The Board of County Commissioners has received a request from (the 4 townships) to establish a fire district pursuant to K.S.A. 19-3601, et. all.
WHEREAS, the city of Spivey, Kansas, an incorporated City of the Third Class, has requested to disband a City owned fire depaiiment and join a proposed Rural Fire District No. 1.
WHEREAS, pursuant to the powers established in K.S.A. 19-3602, the Board desires to establish a fire district encompassing the following areas:
Richland Township, Kingman County, KS Chikaskia Township, Kingman County, KS Valley Township, Kingman County, KS Belmont Township, Kingman County, KS City of Spivey, KS
WHEREAS, a request for inclusion into a new fire district was approved by Richland Township on April 24, 2026;
WHEREAS, a request for inclusion into a new fire district was approved by Chikaskia Township on April 27, 2026;
WHEREAS, a request for inclusion into a new fire district was approved by Valley Township on April 22, 2026;
WHEREAS, a request for inclusion into a new fire district was approved by Belmont Township on April 21, 2026;
WHEREAS, a request for inclusion into a new fire district was approved by the City of Spivey, Kansas on June 12, 2026.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF KINGMAN COUNTY, KANSAS that:
1) The Board proposes a fire district be established encompassing the townships of Richland, Chikaskia, Valley, Belmont and the City of Spivey, all in Kingman County, Kansas.
2) The fire district shall be known as the Rural Fire District No. 1 and the Board of County Commissioners shall initially be the governing body of the fire district, pending fmther action.
3) This Resolution shall be published once a week, for three (3) consecutive weeks in a newspaper of general circulation in the area of the proposed district or official county newspaper. A map of the proposed district is incorporated into this resolution by reference and is available for public viewing at the Kingman County Clerk’s Office. final publication.
4) There shall be a public hearing on the proposed Rural Fire District No. 1, on,13 July, 2026 at 9:00 a.m.This hearing will be at least 10 days after the final publication paper. Adopted by the Board of County Commissioners of Kingman County, Kansas this 15th day of June 2026.
