Selzer Returns to Coach SCHS Cross Country

Tori Selzer will return to coaching cross country as she will guide the South Central Timberwolves this season.

Selzer hasn’t coached cross country since 2021, so she has not coached the runners who are out this season. But she has six boys out, giving the Timberwolves a full boys team, while two girls are out as well.

The Timberwolves lost State qualifier Thaydon Macias to graduation. Macias finished 13th at the Class 1A Regional meet last season with a time of 17:47.64. He had one of the top times among runners who were not part of State qualifying teams, thus he advanced to the State meet. There, he ran a time of 18:16.10 to finish 37th overall.

But the boys will return three runners who had a good showing at the Regional meet last year.

Two seniors, Dominic Macias and Denin Johnson, lead the boy’s squad, along with junior Corbett Heaton. Sophomores out for the team are Parker Woodrum and Gavin Martin, and freshman Jacob Reed rounds out the boy’s side.

Last year at Regionals, Heaton was the top runner who returns to the team. He ran a time of 19:16.41 and finished 34th overall. Macias was right behind Heaton, running a time of 19:26.84 to finish 36th, and Johnson was right with them as he took 39th with a time of 19:32.34.

The two girls out for the team are senior Brecklyn Snyder and sophomore Sofia Hernandez. Snyder ran the 3200-meter run in track last spring and finished sixth at Regionals with a time of 13:28.88. Hernandez competed in the 800-meter run and finished seventh at Regionals with a time of 2:46.47.
