PUBLIC NOTICE
The City of Sharon public water system violated a drinking water standard. Even though this was not an emergency, as our customers, you have a right to know what happened and what we are doing to correct this situation.
We are required to monitor your drinking water for specific contaminants and residual disinfectant levels on a regular basis. Results of regular monitoring are an indicator of whether the drinking water meets health standards. During December 2025 and January 2026, we did not complete some required monitoring for coliform bacteria nor residual disinfectant level and therefore cannot be sure of the quality of the drinking water during that time.
We routinely test as required for chloroform bacteria no less than two times per month. Additional samples are required following a coliform-positive or rejected sample. We are required to monitor the residual disinfectant level at the same time and same point as total coliform. A monitoring violation occurred because of failure to meet these requirements during December 2025 and January 2026.
This is NOT an emergency. There is nothing you need to do at this time. There is no direct health risk to consumers.
Since it is our desire to provide the safest water possible to you, we have taken the action of paying closer attention to our monthly sampling program and daily record keeping and we are looking into alternative resources for testing or shipping if necessary in order to prevent future violations. We anticipate resolving the problem within a month.
