Pompeo’s Wife Endorses Adkins in KS 3rd

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (AP) — U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s wife on Tuesday endorsed Republican candidate Amanda Adkins in the race for the Kansas congressional seat for the Kansas City area.

Susan Pompeo said she’s known and respected Adkins for nearly two decades.

Adkins served as Kansas Republican Party chairwoman from 2009 to 2013, and she and and Mike Pompeo served together for two years on the Republican National Committee, representing Kansas, when Adkins was state GOP leader. She also was party chairwoman in 2010 when he won the Wichita-area congressional seat that he held until 2017.

Adkins is seeking the right to challenge freshman Democratic Rep. Sharice Davids in the 3rd Congressional District.

Adkins is taking an unpaid leave from her job as an executive with medical computer systems firm Cerner Corp. and is a former chairwoman of the Kansas Republican Party.

Adkins faces Adrienne Vallejo Foster, a regional U.S. Small Business Administration official, and Sara Hart Weir, the former president and CEO of the National Down Syndrome Society, in the GOP primary in August.

Susan Pompeo is a former senior vice president of Emprise Bank.
