Westrup noted the bye week came at a crucial time each season because they had some key players who were dealing with minor injuries. That allowed them to get some rest and he hopes to have them back at full strength this week.

The Oilers lost in overtime, 34-28, to Kiowa County this past Friday. They were undefeated before the Kiowa County game, with a 28-18 win over Victoria to open the season, a close 24-22 win over Ell-Saline, a 42-20 win over Kinsley and a blowout win against Spearville, 52-6.

But though the Timberwolves have beaten Kiowa County and the Mavericks have handed the Oilers their first loss, Westrup said that the Timberwolves are focused on the task at hand.

“We’re not looking at what the outcome of last week was with that game,” he said. “We’re just going to take care of ourselves because we know that our fate of a district championship is in our hands. And we know that the fate of, if we want to have all home playoff games, that’s in our hands.

“And we don’t want to look at what happened to Central Plains last week or what Kiowa County did last week. We just got to go out and play South Central football and just make sure we take care of business and let the rest take care of itself.”

Westrup said that Oliers head coach J.D. Johnson does a good job with his program. Central Plains runs a 3-2 defense but will show multiple looks on offense.

“They’re going to get in an I formation and they’re going to spread it out,” Westrup said. “They’re going to run it in the I. They’re going to throw it in the I.

“They’re going to run it in the spread and they’re going to throw it in the spread. So they give you a lot of multiple different looks. You just got to be ready for run and pass out of every formation.”

He said that the Timberwolves (4-0) want to get better with each week, but more importantly, they want to dominate in all facets of the game.

“We want to dominate the offensive line, defensive line,” Westrup said. “We want to dominate in the defensive secondary. We want our offensive skill guys to dominate them.”

But to do that, he said, that means getting better with each game, cleaning up mental mistakes and focusing on how to do that as a team and with individual skills.

“We just want to go out and focus on getting better each day individually or on individual stuff,” Westrup said. “And then that will all come together as a team.”

The South Central football team was idle this past week but head coach Brett Westrup said it gave the Timberwolves a chance to work on individual drills and prepare for their next opponent, Central Plains, at home this Friday. “We spent two days of watching Central Plains on film and then we just spent a […]

[9341
9487
post-106086","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-ccs","tag-south-central-football
["GET
