Managing Editor

The Kingman Leader-Courier has an immediate opening for a managing editor, who can continue to provide our community with the quality news they have come to expect. We are an award-winning publication that also has an award-winning presence on the Internet.
Kingman, KS has the best of both worlds. We are a small-town where folks like to truly know and more importantly care about their neighbors, but we are centrally located between Wichita, Hutchinson and Pratt. We are the county seat of Kingman County and the official paper.

We have plenty for news lovers to cover in Kingman, but we are also looking for someone who loves and understands the importance of community journalism. The ability to step out onto the sports fields would be helpful, as well as the ability to take your own photos (or the willingness to learn). We are also looking for someone that has layout and multimedia capabilities and enjoys a good feature story. We have made great strides in jumping into the new digital age, but we want to soar even higher.

You must have a strong and balanced news judgment and be self-motivated. You must be comfortable interviewing anyone from the highest state official to the youngster who just won the biggest prize at the Fair. The managing editor will be primarily responsible for covering the city and county government, as well as the school district, police and sheriff and justice system. You will also be responsible for helping to plan and produce special sections.
This is a great opportunity to show and exercise a variety of skills and become a community leader.

The Leader-Courier is a family-owned and financially stable newspaper that has had a presence in Kingman for well over 100 years. Salary and benefits commensurate with experience. Please email your letter of interest, resume and 3-5 writing samples to Jason Jump, Publisher to jjump (at) kcnonline (dot) com. Please include a link to a slide show of your photography portfolio and/or your multimedia projects if available.
