US Stocks Gain in Early Trading, Led by Energy

NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are opening slightly higher, led by gains in the energy sector as the price of oil moves higher.

The Dow Jones industrial average edged up 14 points, less than 0.1 percent, to 18,074 as of 9:35 am. Monday.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 index rose a point to 2,104. The Nasdaq composite increased 17 points, or 0.4 percent, to 5,013.

The market is coming off a second weekly gain in a row. It hasn’t had a three-week winning streak since late February.

The price of oil rose $1.12 to $52.84 a barrel in New York.

Bond prices didn’t move much. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note held steady at 1.95 percent.
